CALLING POETS AND MUSICIANS!
This year we are calling on all you amazingly musical and perfectly poetical performers to join the stages of The Wise Words Festival.
During the first weekend, the Wise Words Festival and City Sound Project collaborate to create a space that celebrates music and poetry with the aim of encouraging more people to give poetry a try. The first year we collaborated, we alternated poetry and music sets across the day; the second year we worked together we had poets introduce each musical set with a poem, and this year we want to go one step further and co-commission a number of 30 minute sets that bring poetry and music together in collaboration.
We would be looking for the poet and musician to come and work together for a day at The Cowshed Studios in Bridge, to create a 30 minute performance blurring the lines between music and poetry that would be performed on our main stage during Wise Words 2017. We would like the artists to work together to bring their unique styles together to create work that responds to the theme of this years festival. The 30 minute set would include word created as a collaboration but could also include work performed as individuals.
Although we would like each commission to be different and to reflect your styles as artists, we thought it might be useful to share a collaboration that came together to support our Kickstarter (see below).
The number of commissions we support will is dependent on funding TBC at the beginning of March.
The Brief:
The fee we would be able to give each commission (poet and musician) would be £200 to include all costs.
We are looking for applications from experienced musicians and poets who are excited by the potential of collaborating with artists from different artistic backgrounds and interested in creating work in response to our theme. We would need you to have open availability on Saturday the 29th and Sunday 30th April 2017.
If you think this could be you, then please e-mail [email protected] putting POET/MUSICIAN APPLICATION WW17 in the subject box and including the following
- A short Bio
- Why this opportunity appeals to you as an artist and what you think you might bring to the table as a poet or a musician.
- 1-3 videos and /or audio files of you performing your work
Spaces within our programme are scarce and we are therefore only able to offer a very few commission opportunities. Please don’t be offended if you don’t make it this year! As we have so few spots, this also means that we can only view one application per person. Further applications will not be considered, so send us your best stuff first time around! Don’t send Word files of your poems or links to your books. However good they are, as we want to hear and see you performing.
We hope that you’ll understand that, given the positively elephantine volume of applications we receive every year, we are not physically able to respond to requests for feedback or advice, or to let every applicant know how they’ve done. Successful artists will hear back from us by the end of March 2017.
The deadline for applications is, strictly, 5pm on Friday 3rd February 2017. We regret that we cannot view any applications received after this time, so please make a note of the deadline and make sure you submit as much in advance as possible. Don’t miss your chance!
