Xanthe Gresham | Bringing stories to life – a workshop for primary school teachers | 13:00 – 15:30 |
Telling stories is intimate; it’s eye-to-eye and heart to heart. Because of this, there is a natural ‘transmission’ between teller and listener. Audiences are natural apprentices, absorbing stories like food because they contain much-needed nutrients for their development. This workshops is most suited to Early Years and Primary school teachers
There are many specific techniques that can be learned to improve your skills and confidence when it comes to storytelling. These are just some of the tricks of the trade that Xanthe will explore during this workshop:
Creating characters - People in stories are big and bold. In order to snap into character we experiment with posture, walks and props.
Acknowledging the climax - We analyse the peaks and troughs of story through interactive maps.
Sensory storytelling - Participants have the opportunity to use scents, textures, rhythm, drama, audience participation and music to accompany their storytelling.
Finding your style - Participants are encouraged to choose their own style. Relaxation is the key and the emphasis is on owning and enjoying the story, as that happens, the personal voice cannot help but emerge.
Only 20 places available so book soon to avoid disappointment.
