Syria, Iraq and the return of al-Qa’ida | Patrick Cockburn
Al-Qa’ida in Iraq, which was seen as largely defeated three years ago, has staged a dramatic resurgence seizing significant parts of northern and eastern Syria. The wars in Syria and Iraq are increasingly turning into a single conflict.
We are delighted that Patrick Cockburn is returning to A Few Wise Words to share his recent experience of travelling to both Syria and Iraq.
Patrick Cockburn is an Irish journalist who has been a Middle East correspondent since 1979 for the Financial Times and, presently, The Independent. He has written four books on Iraq’s recent history.
