Makers and Creative Volunteers

Those of you who know our festival will recognise our passion for creating beautiful and often quirky installations that enhance the natural beauty of the site. In the weeks leading up to the festival we meet for coffee, conversation and cake and together make miles of bunting, book birds, installations, paint signs, make lanterns and outdoor chandeliers. Whether you want to help us design the site or just help make things, we need you!

During the Festival itself this team finds itself helping in all sorts of roles: creating installations that grow across the 10 days, keeping the site looking fresh and / or sharing the craft activities they have learnt with festival-goers. Here are some previous examples of the things Creative Team Members have found themselves doing:

  • Both leading and supporting in workshops such as lantern making, headdress making and book bird making.
  • Leading sessions for children such as ‘Fun with Clay’ and ‘Bubble Blowing’.
  • Helping festival-goers to contribute to the festival newspaper.

Dates:

The design and making process begins now. We will be opening our doors and inviting the Creative Team to join us in our studio in Bridge on any day they are free.  We are flexible to fit around your life or studies and can even give you things to make at home.

Installation takes place in the week running up to the festival and it is essential that you would be available at some point between the 20th & 26th April. The days will be filled with setting up the site and in the evening there will be training sessions, a couple of fun socials and the chance to get to know the other volunteers.

Join our family of volunteers at the Festival

Wise Words runs on heaps of passion and very small budgets. Our family of volunteers are the lifeblood that allow it all to happen. Through volunteering you get to become part of our festival family – meeting artists and seeing many of the events free.

Some of the areas our volunteers help with include:

  • Hosting each of our venues – welcoming artists and our audience as if the venue was your home and ensuring it is set up for each event.
  • Looking after and area within our site – ensuring it keeps looking beautiful and that our guests are always happy.
  • Helping out with fun interactive events within the family area.
  • Looking after our artists – providing endless cups of tea and ensuring they have arrived and in the right place at the right time.
  • Selling books and tickets

As much as possible we try and rotate roles across your shifts so that you get a chance to see events and try your hand at everything.

Important information & Dates:

The Festival will take place between the 27th April and 8th May. During the first weekend we collaborate with the City Sound Project to create a space that appeals to both their and our audience.

Rather than have a huge family of volunteers each doing one or two shifts, we are looking for only a very few who are excited by the idea of helping out across the festival.

Shifts during the festival last either 4 or 8 hours and begin as early as 8am and end as late as midnight.
