There is a magical quality to these ancient gardens; the eels in the river, the river weeds that stretch out like mermaid hair, the books hanging from trees, as if mid-flight. Here is the recipe that we use to cook up a storm at Wise Words festival:
A Box of Book Birds Set Free
Walking around the festival, you might notice something in trees, swaying in the wind. These are our book birds, eager to tell their stories, whispering poetry and song from the branches.
What better than reclining in the sun and sipping a Tequila Mockingbird, or a Huckleberry Gin?
Are you ready for some Lime and Punishment? We think so.
The pop-up stage is available for anybody to sign up and play. Whether it’s a blues band or performance poetry, the anticipation lies in the mystery of the next performance slot.
A Splash of Face Painting for Kids (and adults!)
We love face painting, we love glitter, we love the kaleidoscopic colour in every corner of the festival. Here you can become a tiger, or a fairy, or a mythical creature.
A Spoonful of Folk Jam
Enjoy some folk music around our campfire, led by a troupe of talented musicians that will dazzle you into a fiery frenzy. If you’re lucky, there may even be a sprinkling of some marshmallows…
Sprinkle in some Storytelling
The campfire has always held a quiet draw; the centre of myths, folktales and legends for centuries, it creates a sense of the mysterious and the mystical. Join us around the campfire for tall tales that engage your creative spirit and ignite your curiousity.
Woodland Lampshades and Picture Frames
Look out for the lampshades that hang from the branches make the gardens feel like a living room fairytale. Take a picture in one of our frames and upload with #WiseWordsFest and you could be framed in pride of place on our Facebook wall. You’re the centrepiece of the festival.
Pepper in some Pillow Fights
Because why not? If your kids dress up for the festival, they get to battle it out in style. Pillows provided.
A Powder of Dance Performances
Look out for a free dance performance from Motion Alpha, inspired by Daniel Mashburn’s poem Thrones of Ashes and the highly energetic music of Junkie XL. Please note, the performance contains the use of coloured powder.
Performances at 13:00 & 17:30
Yoga For Kids
Because why should the grown-ups have all the fun? Stretch out on the lawn with child-friendly yoga poses that promote strength, flexibility and coordination.
One of the most intimate gigs you’ll ever experience…
Allow yourself to be guided along the Stour by one of our experienced Riverboat tour guides as you’re serenaded by a musician or hear tales from our storytellers
Indian Head Massages
Day to day life can be tough sometimes, so we want the tranquillity of the gardens to be a force that you can feel, from toe to temple. Book an Indian Head massage and sink into a slumber amongst the cushions of our Ti-Pi.
As you have read this article, you get to book tickets ahead of the crowd – before they are even made public.
